Château la Grace Dieu des Priors | Saint Emilion | 1.500 L | 2019

Called La Cuvée Elena, this Chardonnay comes in a bespoke magnum, produced by French glassmaker Waltersperger.

Medal at the Global Chardonnay Masters 2020 : Gold

An intriguing wine with aromas and flavors of caramel, baked apple, honeydew melon, apricot, toast and toasty oak.

The wine, while ripe in terms of fruit, lacks the buttery richness that can beset Chardonnay, but rather a slightly oily, slippery texture and a lingering, salty, smoky, fresh finish. Hardworking, interesting and delicious, even in this youthful state.

Vintage

The Chardonnay of Château La Grâce Dieu des Prieurs is produced in very limited quantities and is the result of meticulous work, as well as aging in new barrels for 10 months.

This one is available in 75cl format or in Magnum "Elena", produced by hand by the company Waltersperger, one of the oldest French crystal factories belonging to the Living Heritage.

Each Magnum bottle is individually painted by artist Victor Kirilov.

An acrylic box comes to sublimate the whole as a case.

Domain

Tradition and modernity are the common threads of Château La Grâce Dieu des Prieurs.

Respect for the heritage of French wine traditions combined with the modernization of working tools for the production of exceptional wine is at the heart of the project.

The cultivation of vines in the estate takes into account the natural seasonal and climatic cycles. Respect for the properties of the soil and the delicate introduction of modern tools are essential at each stage of manufacture.

In particular, in order to create a very high quality wine, we have implemented conservation agriculture and we use the double cord pruning technique.

Appellation

On the right bank of the Dordogne, about fifty kilometers northeast of Bordeaux, the Saint-Emilion vineyard certainly produces the most famous wine in the world.

The magnificent hill of Saint-Emilion, which is one of the jewels of France's wine-growing heritage, produces exceptionally elegant, powerful, full-bodied, tannic and very long-lived red wines.

This vineyard grouping the Saint-Emilion and Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellations, covers nearly 5400ha, spread over 9 municipalities: Saint-Emilion, Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse, Saint-Laurent-des -Combes, Saint-Hippolyte, Saint-Pey-d'Armens, Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens and Vignonet as well as a small part of Libourne. Located 40 km east of the city of Bordeaux, the region of Saint-Emilion is under the influence of the temperate oceanic climate of Aquitaine.

As in the rest of Bordeaux, the geological formations supporting the Saint-Emilion vineyard belong exclusively to the Tertiary and Quaternary eras. The Saint-Emilion grape variety is largely dominated by black Merlot.

Due to the nature of the source rocks and especially to a lesser degree the topography, this wine region is characterized by a great diversity of wine-growing terrains. For those who find the red wines of Bordeaux too harsh or too bitter and prefer wines white wines, Saint-Emilion, with its elegance and finesse, is ideal for learning to love red wines.

However, some claim that the gravel soil of the vineyards from which the two most prestigious Saint-Emilion crus, Château Cheval Blanc and Figeac, have more in common with the Pomerol region than with the rest of the appellation.

The Cuvee Elena Chardonnay from Château La Grâce Dieu des Prieurs 2019 is a rare product, steeped in history, terroir, and art.
